Well, the less said about my tips yesterday the better, always tough to pick at the start of the season and I probably should of stayed safer! But what a night of action it was! I’m not quite sure how the Raiders went a quarter without scoring to lose that bet. The Seahawks struggled against a stout Dolphins defence, and now have an injury worry at QB, Russell Wilson having a precautionary scan today on his ankle. I knew there’d be a lot of points in Indy, but unfortunately picked the wrong guy to get 2 TDs. Nearly all the matches finished within 1 score difference with 6 of the weeks matches finishing 2 or fewer pts apart
Oh well, we move on to Monday night, and the treat of 2 games to start the season.
First up at 0010 UK time the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the nations Capital to take on the Redskins. The Steelers are obviously without Bryant and Lev Bell because of various drug offences for the start of the season, so will rely on DeAngelo Williams to carry the rock, a job he did very well last season when Bell went down injured and he should do again. Antonio Brown is the best in the league at WR so won’t be a problem there for Big Ben, however on the other side of the field there’s issues. Marcus Wheaton is out injured, Sammie Coates didn’t have the pre-season people were expecting, Heyward-Bey isn’t that good, and Eli Rogers is inexperienced. They have issues at tight end too, free agent signing Ladarius Green is out so Jesse James looks set to step in. Their defence is again a weak point for them, but has been looking stronger, Ryan Shazier is a quality player back there for them.
The Redskins go into this match sporting a terrific offensive roster, they added Josh Doctson in the draft, to go alongside receivers DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Jamison Crowder, add tight end Jordan Reed to that and you’ve got an offence to respect. Kirk Cousins last season made good use of that offence, Reed especially, finishing the season with 11 TDs. On the defensive side, they sport two great corner backs, new signing Josh Norman coming in from the Panthers, and on the other side, an equally adept Bashaud Breeland, they’ll have to be on top of their games to slow down Antonio Brown though, it usually doesn’t matter who he’s facing, he’ll have a big game. Their run defence however isn’t as good, ranking 31/32 in yards per carry allowed last season.
Total points – o49.5 – 10/11, Jordan Reed anytime – 23/20 (BetVictor) 2 or more – 17/2 (1pt), Eli rogers anytime – 6/1 (Skybet)
The final match of the week 1 schedule sees the LA Rams travel over to Santa Clara to face the San Francisco 49ers, after what should be a high scoring shootout in Washington we get to finish the week with something completely uninspiring, with 2 teams who I believe will be in the bottom 10 in the league. The Rams have Todd Gurley, in his second year and predicted by many to finish as top rusher. Other than that there’s not much, first overall draft pick Jared Goff hasn’t learnt how to play in the NFL so is inactive for the game with Case Keenum starting at QB, Kenny Britt will be his most likely target. Their defences is good though, Aaron Donald likely to be in the running for defensive player of the year. The 49ers however have pretty much nothing. Carlos Hyde started the season well last year before getting injured. Blaine Gabbert will start as QB, and will have Torey Smith to aim at. Other than that, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Total points – u42.5 – 10/11
Points double – o49.5 and u42.5 – 2.64./1 – 4pts
