Got unlucky again on Monday with the both players to score bet at 11/2, with Jordan Matthews dropping an easy touchdown catch, seems to have been like that for me at the start of this season so far, hopefully it’ll turn around soon.
The first game of week 3 sees two unbeaten teams take to the field at Foxborough as the Houston Texans visit the New England Patriots. In what is going to be a very tough matchup, and quite hard to call, I expect it to be a tight game, and the bookies have the Patriots as 1 point underdogs, something which very rarely happens for them in a home matchup.
The Texans have won both their matches so far and looked good doing it, last week they had two 100yd receivers, DeAndre Hopkins, and Will Fuller, who would of had a TD had he not juggled a long catch down the middle which slowed him down falling agonisingly short. Fuller has gone for over 100 yards in both his appearances so far with 5 of his 9 catches last week going for over at least 20 yards. He’ll continue to do this as Hopkins picks up the shorter work. Speaking of Hopkins, he was one of the best in the league last year and opened his account for the season last week with the sole receiving touchdown. At running back a team seems to have finally realised that Lamar Miller is actually rather good, giving him at least 25 attempts in both games so far, and working him into the passing game as well, he went for o100 combined yards last week, but frustratingly was kept out of the endzone. The Patriots defence, often overlooked because of their offensive prowess is actually rather good, which could limit production for the Texans, but with three top targets, the pats will do well to stop them all.
The Patriots came out of the blocks on fire last week with Tom Bradys stand-in, Jimmy Garoppolo helping them to a 21-0 lead before half time, unfortunately he went down injured with a few minutes left in the half and looks set to miss this match. With Brady still suspended for another 2 matches that leaves the position open to Jacoby Brissett a 3rd round draft pick who would never have expected to see the field so early in his career. After he came on they kept plays simple and limited him to just 9 attempts in the second half, 6 of which were completed for 92 yards. LeGarrette Blount with the big benefactor of the change in play ending the match with 29 attempts for 123 yards and a TD. Although Billichek can produce magic and game scripts that baffle us all, you can surely expect that he’ll keep up the running game this week and feed Blount the ball all he can. (Even in week 1 v the Cardinals Blount had 22 carries and a TD) It’s hard to be too confident on any of the receivers with a complete rookie behind center. Amendola was back in the game last week with 2 TDs from Garoppolo, with the Black Unicorn, Martellus Bennett catching the other score. Rob Gronkowski has missed the first 2 games of the season with injury and is reported as a game time decision for tonight, I personally think they’ll leave him out, 3-1 without Brady to start the season is perfectly acceptable, and Bennett has filled in well.
A few tips for tonight, sticking with 2 pts a go unless stated
- Blount anytime TD scorer – 5/4 (Ladbrokes)
- Blount o19.5 rush attempts – 5/6 (5 points)
- Fuller anytime, – 2/1 (WillHill) – Fuller 2 or more – 18/1 (1 pt)
- Tribet – Any other score (either team to win by 5 or less) – 9/5
